We've been here because we pass by this place on a regular basis via public transit. It's on Marine Dr. and Fraser St., across from the complex with Panos (GREAT greek food at happy prices :D) and that old Asian place. There's a slight re-vamp as compared to our first time: they now have those slurpee machines (2 flavours only ... and no we didn't get any).

Now onto the food:

Well, there's a promotion going on and ALL wraps are buy one get one half off!! So we got two wraps for ~$8 bucks and butter chicken for $6.99.

*Note: boyfriend order a beef and he wanted it in super (~$5) and I ordered a small chicken (~$2).

The super that my boyfriend bought had A TON of beef in it!!! Literally from his first bite to his last, all I saw was beef and more beef.

I only had a small, but the amount of filling was more than enough. Of course nothing like the super boyfriend had.

Because we didn't want to eat in the store and I parked across the street infront of Panos (which is closed on Mondays :(! ), we went down and along E Kent to Gladstone Park ... it's not really a park but it's by Fraser River and the scenery is pretty. Perfect location to test out my sister's camera! After our little adventure, we headed to boyfriend's place because it's two minutes closer than my house to demolish the butter chicken.

So the butter chicken? It's not like any other butter chicken I had before:

- it was not spicy... at all

- it had more of a tomato-y taste to it

but I still liked it, so did boyfriend. My fave butter chicken comes from this pizza place in the strip mall I frequent because of work. Where is this place? Well it's on Knight and 49th where the KFC is (usually when I tell people KFC they know where it is) and frankly I don't look at signs enough to tell you the name of this place :P LOL. *** PLEASE do not go to the one on victoria dr and 49th, I personally found this place to be REALLY sketchy. ***

Moderne Burger

So... I went to school to do some paper work stuff at school the other day and by the time I finished...well, I was starving, because there's literally no food at home :( . After a while boyfriend and I finally decided to take the 99B for either: benkei, "that diner" (sunshine dinner) or moderne burger. With our college student sized wallets, we opted for the one that seemed the less expensive (which would've been Benkei... but we were too lazy to walk back) so we went for Moderne Burger!

I love the simplicity of their menu and the place itself. The owner seemed like a nice guy... he was chatting up everyone ... except us lol! I guess he was too caught up with other conversations and most people that came in seemed like regulars.

Since, I do get full easily ... especially after starving myself, I ordered a single burger ... and then a CREAMSICLE MILKSHAKE! I love creamsicles and when I'm at work and my wallets a tad too light I buy one for myself, especially in the summer heat :). Boyfriend ordered a burger with fries... because frankly, I wanted fries too .... just didn't think we should both order the burger + fries combo (note Burger Burger incident).

Boyfriend's was the salmon burger:

He didn't complain, but we actually cut our burgers up to share. As much as I like salmon, this did not appeal to me. No clue why, just not my cup of tea. The fries were decent, just very potato-y because it's not the powdered stuff :D.

My turkey burger was alright:

It wasn't dry, nor extremely juicy... just turkey.

Now onto the best part of the meal, the MILKSHAKE!

It was fantastic to say the least, I've never seen another place with the creamsicle flavour. Amazing, when compared to other standard flavours.

I have to say the meal was decent, but I don't see myself returning anytime soon. For one, the price is a tad on the higher side - $28 (incl. tips) for lunch for two, not too bad... but it's lunch. And more importantly, another last minute trip to Hong Kong in t minus 24 hrs.

Why must there be a high season for air travel? My ticket is more than enough to buy my sister's new toy AND a flash (she bought the canon eos 50D kit... and I had fun with it... see double post). The good part of this trip is: getting to see ALL (my family's huge and all over the place ...especially on my mom's side) of my cousins!

Speaking of turkey burgers:

please note/watch 0:28! :D

Anyways, I should start packing ... soon!

Playing with my mom's new toy... a pleasant surprise!

In the Burger Burger/ Ann's Dairy Bar post, I mentioned cooking dinner at home and that we did... with my mom's new toy! She made my sister carry this huge cardboard box from Hong Kong back to Vancouver... haha that's something my mom LOVES to do, make others carry her many "good finds" from all over Asia.

The so-called toy is actually a "Halogen Cooking Pot" from German Pool, I believe I have seen something similar on the countless infomercials on TV ( I LOVE INFOMERCIALS, makes you want to spend).

The particular model my mom bought came with:
- the pot itself - a staggering 12L and it can also be extended to fit a whole entire chicken
- some manuals, recipe book, and a DVD
- addition accessories as described on the website

*I did the conversion of the price from the online source (there's two prices...) and both prices are under $2000HKD which is roughly about $224 CAD ($1680HKD), not too bad from what I've observed so far. The cooking pot is really heavy, mainly because the container is made of glass and my heart nearly jumps out every time I move it around (I'm really clumsy, especially with glass, knives, etc.).

To sum it up before the pictures, we bought ~1lb of marinated pork(... not sure which part it was, I'm a noob at meat parts) and it took us only15 minutes to cook the entire thing :D!! We didn't really know how long to cook it but we followed the recipe given for BBQ pork chop. They even have a recipe for "siu yok" and according to my mom it's pretty decent!

Picture time!

The finished product, we liked it! We did not turn on any lights for any of the previous pictures, the lighting pretty much came from that.

This is what you're left with after cooking. I guess it's a healthy way of cooking since a lot of oil oozes out of whatever you cook.

So far, I've tried making the pork, a cob of corn and chicken fillet (it only took 8 minutes!!). They have recipes spanning from desserts to "clay pot rice." Again, my mom said they tried the "Angel cake" recipe with my aunts (she's still in Hong Kong) and she said it was decent too!!

P.S. We had a salad... just so you know :)

*On the side: My mom phoned when we were eating our delish pork :( and she said: don't break it, the shop owner said its the only "American version" they had at the store (meaning the voltage has been changed so that it works in North America). Sort of think my mom was scammed (about getting the only one available), but she wanted one of these since last December so I guess whatever floats her boat.

Burger Burger + Ann's Dairy Bar =birthday wishes do come true!

So... a few days ago (* post was written up a month ago ... but since I just found my cable...), it was my 20th birthday (one more year till a Vegas trip!) and we decided to go to two places that I have wanted to go for quite a while and since I didn't have the car + am not really familiar with the roads in New West, we bused :). Surprisingly quick btw, the entire trip took about 3 hours and most of the time was spent eating :D.

First, because I was starving and was too lazy to cook something for breakfast... we had burgers from well ...Burger Burger for an extremely late brunch and yea... couldn't really finish my drink despite my initial hunger. We got their special combo A (boyfriend) and a special combo B (myself). The two combos together came to about $11 dollars :D (... some places charge $11 for the same portion of food :( like Wally's depending on what you get).For the portions we were given, it was so CHEAP! Boyfriend's combo is essentially the same but he gets to choose between cheese and mushrooms/ bacon and mushrooms, he chose the mushrooms. The burger... I just thought the patty was a bit dry other than that, everything was great. The fries were good too, crunchy and perfect for my favorite condiment- ketchup! I used to eat ketchup with rice when there's no food at home, I've been through the stage where I ate ketchup with everything (my brother likes Parmesan cheese on rice... maybe it runs in the family?). All in all, cheap price + filling and decent brunch (what a healthy way to start my day) = satisfied tummy.

Since my sister decided to ditch me for dinner ON MY BIRTHDAY (she still owes me a cake :D), boyfriend and I decided to cook at home so we went to pick up some groceries at save on. I highly recommend people to go JUST for this, I have been showing everyone the picture I took of the soft serve since my visit and I have been thinking of ways to recreate my own version...if I ever try it, I will do a post on it :). It's unbelievably good, even my boyfriend (who's not a big fan of dessert) loved it! The soft serve and the maple "butter" was not too too sweet, just right to satisfy my sweet tooth.

*We took this picture to show that they filled it all the way through!!! Not sure if that's how they do things or we were just lucky we were served by a new girl.

And then for the birthday party(... that took place a week or two after this adventure), well we had some cake and a few drinks :)

My boyfriend bought this cake for me ... quite a funny story he told me afterwards. We got to the topics of cakes one day (and this was quite close to my birthday) and I said: Well, I like ice cream cakes but then I don't like how the DQ one's have that cookie crumb layer with all that sweet stuff and gelato cakes are so expensive these days (and they cannot feed 20 people). So, on my birthday, I got a customized DQ cake, without that layer of stuff :D. Problem was, my boyfriend originally wanted to buy the cake from the Kerrisdale branch, but was accidentally transferred to the one in Dunbar. Since he does not drive, he had to bus/ skytrain with a huge cooler all the way. But wait, There's more to the story! When he finally got to the Dairy Queen, he found out the cooler was too small for the cake and he resorted to carrying the cooler tilted on its side on public transport.

And to go with the cake, we had some stuff to drink. Picture shown is only half of what we had... I think we had a case of corona ( with ONE lime) and a case of bud light lime and maybe some other stuff... I only remember half of the night :S, but I remember one of my friends saying I'm a genius for getting that Asahi and a lot of people complaining about the "greek stuff". Because I wanted champagne, we had 6 of them too :D.

mia?*

*EDIT****************************************

Guess who just found her cable? :D To celebrate, I'm uploading my pictures for the two posts that have been typed up without their pictorial counterparts :D

Hi,

I just wanted to let whoever reads this blog know the reason for my absence. The reason is quite dumb actually T_T... I lost the my cable that connects my phone and my lap top (... AGAIN)! Normally, when this happens I just jack my brother's (he spent a sh*t load of money on a milestone btw), but he's not back yet and I don't think I want to bluetooth every single picture (I eat out wayyy too often) onto my net book and transfer them onto my lap top. On top of that, I cannot seem to find a SD card adapter anywhere for my teeny weeny micro SD. Since my phone is a newer model of nokia phones... I cannot use any other cable.

I actually have some stuff typed up and because of the picture transferring problem... I cannot post anything up.

And other forthcoming problems: I will be returning to school for another summer course next week... simply because I will not be able to take some of my courses next year if I don't. On top of that, I will also be taking physics 11 (online) and then ,in August, physics 12 (self paced) ...which started out as curiosity but I found out VERY recently that I need physics 1o1 ... again for some upcoming courses for my third year.

I will have so much fun this summer! (please note the sarcasm) On the bright side, I guess school gives me something to do... other than lying on the hardwood floors in my living room because it was so hot today!!

I will still try to post entries... but it might even be slower because I'm a lazy person and things always goes missing on me (lost two too many phones and textbooks and ... you name it, I probably lost it).

Cheers!

P.S. About the weather thing, I have no idea where my mom hid the fan... neither does my sister. I am pretty sure we're doomed for the rest of the summer.

P.P.S I will include some old pictures I randomly found on my laptop ... :(

I find the consistency/ quality of blenz drinks better than starbucks, I believe the above is the strawberry tea latte... which is only 29 calories (I just found out). Not really for this weather but its good for the winter months.

I didn't get this :( and it's all the way back in Hong Kong, I really wanted it but we were not going home yet so I didn't buy it. Should have just bought it and ate it on the streets.

This (all three flavours), I did have, my mom bought them in the states... same size as hagen daaz, SAME QUALITY AND FLAVOURS as hagen daaz ... only $2 USD at walmart... according to the mom. I wish she bought more :(.

Picture at the top of the post: That's what I do at work ;D, usually I study... the regulars think I'm a hardcore geek and the find it strange when I don't have a (text)book in hand. My sister bought me that colouring book, because when we were young... she wrecked mine :'( since my dad only bought it for me and took me to "Foon Lok Tin Day" everyday when she was AWAY IN SINGAPORE. I had the right to be compensated for not getting to travel :(. I was so sad, because she literally ripped the book out of my hands and scribbled with crayons over each and every single page. LOL! That's why she decided to buy me one when she saw it at Michael's. She was the mean child, I was the crying child, my brother was the rascal. Now, my sister is the nice one (most of the time), I'm still the crying "child" and my brother... he's a "re-tard"* (*Hangover styled).

Chocolate + ice cream = Godiva?

Just a short little post... in case it takes me forever to put up another post relatively soon (I'm suppose to be studying, but my mind is wandering).

So a while ago, boyfriend and I were walking around Oakridge for no reason and we passed by Godiva. :) And I thought: Chocolate! Then I noticed these miniature ice cream cone like things on display besides the usual chocolate covered strawberries. They looked so cute and of course I couldn't resist and bought two: one for me, one for my sister (she's coming home tonight :D). Boyfriend's not a fan of overtly sweet stuff and they were quite ex$pensive: $4 each, but they were too cute and they went home with me.

Mine: mint chocolate :D

Super good, tastes just like mint chocolate ice cream... just not freezing cold. * Please ignore my chipped nails, lol. *

Sister's: rocky road

Good, same comment as before, very similar to the actual ice cream flavor.But we both agreed that mine is better.

*Please excuse the backgrounds of the pictures, you can tell we were walking all over the place at home because my sister was leaving to hang with her friend right before we ate our "ice cream cone".

Inside the store, there was a whole table dedicated to the (somewhat) new line of chocolate but I'm not sure if I would actually go back to buy them... I haven't yet, so it's highly unlikely.

Oh, I just realized the day we went to Oakridge, we also made it over to Lonsdale Quay and Gastown. We went to North Van for Burgoo and a bouncy ball that I got from the kiddie's area. So expect a post on Burgoo and our mini adventure (cross my fingers) soon?

friends, food and fantastic weather

Last post, I mentioned something about a entire day of eating out with friends. So I guess it's time to write about it.

I was so early that day that I managed to pay my school fees (boo tuition increases ...for two consecutive years) and find that Adonia was quite empty (actually, it was empty when I arrived and then a group of middle aged Chinese ladies came in - reminded me of my mom and her friend's biweekly <bubble> tea meetings). My friends arrived and we ordered the following:

Judging by the pictures, we thought: this must be good, and we were right! Especially the strawberry crepe... it was the BEST! It's not the crunchy kind (more like the soft, chewy kind) but it was still really good and we finished it super fast. The tea (I believe it was the blood orange one) was okay, my friend ordered a mango slush and that was AMAZING. The creme brulee we ordered came the same time as the crepe, it was finished last... possibly because the crepe was so awesome. Then the chocolate souffle was brought to our table, my friend that's been to Adonia before said the one we got paled to the one she got on her first visit. Nonetheless it was quite good.</bubble>

<bubble> </bubble>

<bubble> </bubble>

<bubble>
</bubble>

<bubble> </bubble>

<bubble>
</bubble>

<bubble>Service wise, at first I found the waitresses to be quite distant. But after all Adonia is a place for afternoon tea where the majority of the time spent should be devoted to gossiping with your girlfriends (or boyfriends). Other than that I thought it was an okay experience overall. I would definitely go back for the crepe :D.

*Sidenote: Two Chinese girls came in when we were there, and it was funny because the two of them kept taking pictures of each other (we did that too but not as extreme as the duo) and occasionally they stood up to pose with the food/ interior of the shop. (I have to admit the interior of the shop is ridiculously cute.)

</bubble>

<bubble> </bubble>

<bubble>
Moving on, so after the satisfying crepe ( see how much I enjoyed that crepe). One of my friends who was in the same shoes as me said she had nothing/ no one to eat with for dinner so we hopped onto the 480 to head over to Richmond for some form of dinner although I was already somewhat full from Adonia. If you take the 480 on a somewhat regular basis, then you'll know that driver that talks along the way, I had him during the Christmas time and HE'S SO FUNNY! Anyways, back to the food... we decided (well I did because I've always wanted to try the food from this place) to go to Nan-chu.

Nan- chu is located on the lovely Alexander Rd, it's really close to "Gam Do" and Tuttimelon (which I will be talking about shortly). Nan- chu's like your typical Guu place, a lot of the same items on the menu, similar prices etc etc. The food also resembled what what you could find in most Guu places. Nothing surprising here but there were some "Magic Mushrooms" on the menu... no we didn't order it.</bubble>

<bubble>
</bubble>

<bubble>
</bubble>

<bubble>
As with most Guu places, the waitresses are all Japanese: really polite, REALLY attentive ( I just poked my head out a bit and this waitress zoomed over :D ... but we were not ready to order ). They didn't have my beloved sake mojito, so we stuck with water to start.

Food!!!

We ordered some skewers, ebi mayo, this mini mentaiko don thing ( I LOVE anything mentaiko), and some udon. As I said, nothing new, except we noticed that the portions here are a bit smaller than a lot of other places (say Guu with Garlic/ Aberdeen). We also noticed that there were several items on the dessert menu that was from Chicco (no parfaits though). Since we already decided to go over to Tuttimelon for dessert, we didn't order any. Overall, I liked this place but I don't think I will be back anytime soon.

</bubble>

<bubble>

On to the desserts, well, we were already full but we reallllllllllly wanted to try the frozen yogurt for comparisons sake. So we did a little walk over to Tuttimelon, we were the only ones there except for the girl behind the counter (my friend caught her avidly shoving frozen yogurt into her mouth when we were there by the way... I want her job). Since we were so full, we decided to go for a medium with 3 toppings to share, it came to just under $6 if I remember correctly. It was good, but we had a hollow middle :(. But I guess the overload of toppings partially compensated for it. I think I will visit during the summer, but they do not have free wifi anymore :(.
</bubble>

<bubble>
</bubble>

<bubble></bubble>

<bubble>
 </bubble>

<bubble>
</bubble>

*COMING ATTRACTIONS: dine out, Italian Kitchen and its mishaps, godiva chocolate. The Adonia/ Nan chu/ Tuttimelon post is mostly done, I just don't have the pictures on the computer at work nor do I have my cable with me (yes, I have a super cool job where I spend my time on the Internet). So I went onto my facebook to choose out some pictures that I want to share with you guys.

Kabocha koroke :D my lover and best friend, I just LOVE it! But seriously, I think I am more than willing to sit through another boring adult dinner for these.

Last picture: it's the first cake I made for my now-boyfriend, I made it because he kept helping with calculus... don't think I would have past if he wasn't there to help me :(. And I had to make my friend a cake anyways so it's like killing two birds with one stone (the one I made for my boyfriend it the mini me, my friends had the humongous 9 inch one). But personally, I liked mini me more... it's so cute :D. But then there's a crack in the middle and then i covered it with jam :D. I miss my baking days, they were the best. This is why I'm contemplating whether or not I should apply for Michael's because employees get to learn the wilton cake decorating classes for free... and I already did course 1 and 2 ( really want to go do fondant classes).

In case you were wondering: this is the recipe I used. I LOVE bakerella, her cake pops look so good and she rocks my socks! I don't have a food processor so I "employed" my brother's arm to mash up the graham crackers... I felt bad, but he's always so mean to me so it's all good :D. Another thing I tried to make from Bakerella's site was the lemon squares... equally good, super easy to make and well liked at a barbecue last year.

Off topic but what's up with the weather, it's so bipolar!!

Menya! - my first real post :)

Originally, I was going to do a post on Sushi Boy, but then I thought, it might be bad if a start off with a food fail ( in my opinion it was not the best EVEN at the low -ALMOST! unbeatable prices). So that leads me to its neighbour: Menya - the W. Broadway one ... close to the Broadway (duh!) City Hall Station on the Canada Line :).

Mmm... on the outside of the store, it looked nice albeit a bit dark it seemed alright (no pictures taken of the exterior... sorry!).

On the inside, similar set up to G men - although G men was dark inside. I didn't like G men by the way... I don't know why but it just didn't click with my taste buds. Kintaro is always the best when it comes to ramen ♥.

Waitress(es) was/ were nice, patient and welcoming. I thought the prices were relatively cheap too - so that's another plus (lower prices is always a plus!). With our orders placed, we waited and seemed like its a place for everyone: couples, small families, friends and there were a few lone customers at the time.

On to the food...

Boyfriend got the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen (top... you can tell because he takes ugly pictures haha) , while I ordered the Nagahama Ramen (bottom). I don't really remember the prices but they were both under $8 and mine was a little cheaper. I LOVED my boyfriends soup (he did too) because it was so rich and yummy. Mine was not bad, just not as good as his. *sidenote: the Nagahama Ramen had some of the red ginger stuff (see picture on bottom) in it so I guess it's not for everyone and I didn't really like the ginger pieces warm. That's all we ordered that day... mainly because I had about $7.00 cash on me (this, my friend, is the effect of studying at school and eating yourself poor because of the $$$ price of food at school) and I get full easily. I really wanted to add a boiled egg... but I had a feeling that my wallet would have been really upset with me, so I refrained. They didn't make the egg right at G men, so the comparison of the two will have to wait till I go again.

Definitely have to go back soon to try more of their ramen and perhaps gyozas :D and those little desserts they advertise. Yup, this is gonna be one FAT summer.

*COMING SOON (hopefully...I will start typing them up soon): Other than the fore-mentioned Sushi Boy, I want to do a quick review on Adonia and Nanchu. The two are somewhat far apart (one's in Kerrisdale, and the latter is in Richmond), but I actually went to both with my friend on the same day and then we skipped over to Tuttimelon for dessert (for the record we, shared a small).

I feel bad for neglecting this already...with only the "introduction" of my blog up. But I swear I'm not doing it on purpose!! First and only week of freedom away from school means hanging out with friends I don't really get to see during the regular school year :). That also means that I have been pigging out a lot so I can do more reviews when school starts up again... in about t minus 2 days.

To compensate I decided to do a POTD (Photo of the Day :D)

It's PsOTD to be more exact. I decided on these two because desserts = best meal a girl can ask for and both these pictures were taken when my whole family was together in Vancouver. Now that I'm only here with my sister, I miss them THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSS much!! :(

The first picture is the thomas haas cake i bought for my sister's birthday... and I was about 3 months late buying that cake. Ya... it took me a while to decide what kind of cake and where to get it from.

The second picture was the randomest trip to steveson with my dad because he just wanted to go there after my shift ended. It was fun though, driving there to get ice cream and walk past some good looking uni :(!!! - I must go back for them someday, $10 for 3!! That's a deal! And we also drove by Zen, I hope my sister takes me there someday soon.

To all the courageous mothers: Happy-a-tad-early-Mother's-day. *I need to phone my mommy when I get off work, it's already the 9th in Hong Kong. I LOVE food! Eating it, making it, toying with it ... having dreams about it (I had a dream about a bottomless Yakult; the BEST part about this dream was my mom bought a pack the following day!) . It seems like that's all I ever do, that is, besides going to school and work and stuff.

Going to try all sorts of food is all I ever want to do, BUT since I'm still in school and only work on the weekends, the $$ for my little expeditions is often hard to obtain. Especially when that shopping itch comes around every so often. So a majority of my food adventures tend to be little hole in the wall places that crosses my path. A majority of them are located close to or on the route to school ... in my case that would be commuting an hour a day to UBC.

Since food at school is overpriced (IKES!!! for one) and travelling great distances to a "cheaper" alternative may not be of my interest most of the time (99B or walk the whole way?). An going to the SUB can be a hassle *ESPECIALLY* when all your courses are on the other side of campus. I either starve myself or put up with my own little experiments - when my mom's not around to make wonderful home-cooked lunches (like I'm going through again now). I try to look for alternatives, preferably cheap ones since my funds run dry quite rapidly.

During the horrifying month of exams and projects, all hell breaks lose and commuting to school and cooking at home is a huge pain in the butt- which leads me into eating out for almost every meal :(. This also means a lot of visits to new and interesting places for the past couple of weeks.

So, to stop me from rambling on and on about my boring life, I present to you yum yum in my tum tum (... it came to me one day and that's why it's named in this strange way), my foodie exploration of the little (big) city I call home - Vancouver <3

Just testing things out at the moment.
